With less than a week before the start of its Winter Concert Series, staff at the local United Way are hoping the community events will help the organization get even closer to reaching its largest-ever fundraising target of $1.55 million.
“Every dollar counts towards meeting our goal and this is one of our strategies to try and reach it,” said Sonya Heyen, resource development and communications manager with the United Way Perth-Huron
“The more people that come out the more money will be added to the campaign.”
A little over a week ago, the non-profit announced it had reached 70 per cent of its overall target and their efforts are now set on raising the little that is left.
An ABBA and Bee Gees tribute show on Saturday will kick off the third edition of the series and will be followed by four other concerts over the next few months in the city.
The third of the four smaller events, New Kid In Town – Eagles Tribute, will take place on Fri Mar 30, 2018 at Revival House, featuring the New Kid In Town.
Once the event’s expenses are covered, all the money raised through tickets’ sales will be added to the campaign, which is expected to support the work of over 45 groups in the community.
Through the concerts, the United Way is looking to offer people the chance to have a good time while supporting many great causes, Heyen said.
“This is a way for people to support the campaign in a different way,” she said. “It is a shout out to the retro and the 70s, and it gives people an opportunity in January to go out and have some fun and a positive experience.”
